Descended from a long line of potters, Henry Remmey moved in 1812 from Manhattan to the bustling metropolis of Baltimore. Affiliated with the Baltimore Stoneware Manufactory, he produced some of the most meticulously inscribed and exuberantly decorated examples of early 19th-century American stoneware. The pitcher below is remarkably similar to small but important group stamped “H. REMMEY BALTIMORE.”
