New Research in Southern Needlework and Textiles
In celebration of the opening of MESDA’s new Textile Study Gallery, the 2010 MESDA Textile Seminar focuses on textiles of the early South with specific emphasis on the collections of MESDA and Old Salem Museums & Gardens. Speakers will examine needlwork and other household textiles of the Chesapeake Region, the southern Backcountry, and the Carolina Low Country. Attendees will have the opportunity to examine and study recent additions to the collections and objects that are rarely exhibited.
The Seminar begins with optional pre-seminar workshops and a reception on Wednesday, March 17, and continues through Friday, March 19. On Saturday, March 20 a coverlet turning with separate registration will offer the opportunity to view and study more than twenty-five historic coverlets and quilts from the MESDA's collection.

Coverlet Turning
On Saturday, March 20 a coverlet turning with separate registration will offer the opportunity to view and study more than twenty-five historic coverlets and quilts from the museum’s collections, many of which have never been exhibited. Registration is limited for this event, which will be offered from 9:30 a.m. – Noon and repeated from 1:30 – 4:00 pm. Registration for either session includes lunch.
Cost
$350 for non-members, $300 for Friends of MESDA or Old Salem (Includes all sessions and materials, lunch on Thursday and friday, seminar dinner, and admission to Old Salem and MESDA) Attendance is limited.
Registration for the coverlet turning on Saturday, March 20 is $45, $35 for seminar attendees, and Friends of MESDA or Old Salem. Registration includes either the morning or afternoon session of the coverlet turning and lunch.
